This Week’s Finest: Clandestino #1

ClandestinoCover1

By Amancay Nahuelpan

Reading through my stack of books this week, I noticed little things in each of them. “This plot isn’t bad, but the ending is too sudden”, “This seems like a book extolling the merits of wealth and privilege”, etc. Little things that, even though I was moving moderately fast in my reading, I picked up on and formed my overall opinion of the book. The last book in my stack, Clandestino #1struck me in its art and plot structure and put it over the top for This Week’s Finest.

Craven Gone, But The Show Will Go On

Disciples4Cover

In March 2015 an exciting announcement hit the TV and comic world. The iconic horror director Wes Craven was partnering with popular horror comic writer Steve Niles to adapt Steve’s next comic project, titled The Disciples, to a television show with Universal Cable Productions. This presents a big opportunity for Niles who wrote the horror success 30 Days of Night and also Black Mask Studios who publish the sci-fi horror book written by Niles, featuring Christopher Mitten on art duties. After the first few issue of The Disciples it looked to be a clear home run, right out of the park, then the tragic happened. Life, or rather death, took its toll on the creative team as Wes Craven died exactly one month ago on August 30th. Craven lost his battle with brain cancer as most tend to do. Hopefully the man who brought you Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream can still find a way to haunt your dreams. This is sad and disappointing news, and now a month after his passing The Disciples #4, the final issue of the series, is released. This not so subtle reminder raises the question, what will happen to the TV show now?

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Tyler’s Recommendations:
Stray Bullets: Sunshine and Roses #8
“I jumped onto the Stray Bullets train earlier this year, and have enjoyed every issue. Even without the context of reading past issues the story being told is compelling. David Lapham has built a crazy world inhabited by fully realized characters, and they’re all captivating to follow. I highly recommended this comic for any serious crime-drama fan.”
