Indubitable Issues and Pull List (09/14/16)

LOOKING FOR BOOKS TO BUY THIS WEEK?

LOOK NO FURTHER.

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Cosmo’s Recommendations …
blackmondaymurders2Black Monday Murders #2
“The first issue of Jonathan Hickman’s latest image series was so strong that earned This Week’s Finest. A tale of Wall Street greed filled with the usual skulduggery plus elements of dark magics, it was immediately compelling. Jump on now to see where Hickman and artist Tomm Coker twist this tale next . . .”

animosity2Animosity #2
“Speaking of new series another striking debut was Marguerite Bennett’s new AfterShock series. Imagining a world where animals suddenly gain sentience, it defied expectations in presenting readers with a thrilling, nuanced experience. Fans interested in either suspense and/or animals should definitely be checking it out . . .”

 Josh’s Recommendation…
thefixtpThe Fix Volume 1 TP
“Does this series need plugging? It gets rave reviews each month, is written by one of Marvel’s best current writers, and drawn by the artist who did ‘Superior Foes’. Do yourself a favor and pick up the first collection if you haven’t already. Its about two best friends bumbling from one crime to the next with hilarious results.”

Tyler’s Recommendation…
actioncomics963Action Comics #963
“The mystery behind Clark Kent, not Superman, is explored. Action has been very good so far, and this issue starts a new arc where we begin to find out more about this Earth’s Clark Kent, who is most definitely NOT Superman, but why is that? With fantastic art from Patrick Zircher, this is going to be a very interesting journey.”

Dean’s Recommendations…
doompatrol1Doom Patrol #1
“This may be a risky recommendation but there is no way I am missing Gerard Way on Doom Patrol. You should definitely give it a try.”

allstarbatman2All-Star Batman #2
“If you aren’t into taking chances as much as I am then Snyder on Batman might be more up your alley.”

As I’m sure you all have noticed, the pull list page is no longer present. We here at Nothing But Comics have decided to combine this weekly with the discussion of which comics we are all buying for the week. Included below is the link of our personal favorite product guide. Don’t worry, this is not an advertisement; the website is not paying us anything to push it (not that we’d object!). Comic List just happens to be totally awesome. So check out that massive list and then come on back here to let us know what you are buying.

Heavy week, so not everything’s going to make the cut:
All-Star Batman: Realistically, at 5 bucks a pop, this series only had one issue to convince me that I was wrong about Snyder overstaying his welcome on Batman. It failed.

Wonder Woman: nothing really bad about this series, but it’s not really making a strong impression on me either. Another victim of double-shipping . . .

Doom Patrol:Curious. Maybe pick up later if I hear good things . . .

    1. I don’t know if Snyder overstayed his welcome, but I was extremely underwhelmed by the first issue. A big part of that, for me, came from the JRJr art. I know plenty of people like his stuff, but it just isn’t for me.

      1. Yeah, I know I’m in the minority on this one, but I lost interest in Snyder’s Batman awhile back. The last time I was really loving the series was the first arc of Zero Year. After that I was more mixed. I dropped it not long after the first few issues of Jim Gordon Batman. All the random price increases DC would do didn’t help much either.

      2. JrJr had a long Spider-Man run back when Spider-Man was my long time favorite character (4 spidey books a month fav) and I hated it at first. I grew to love it eventually though, that took years though. At the time I was buying everything Spider-Man related and refused to miss an issue.
