Indubitable Issues and Pull List (11/16/16)

LOOKING FOR BOOKS TO BUY THIS WEEK?

LOOK NO FURTHER.

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Tyler’s Recommendation …
killorbekilled4Kill Or Be Killed #4
“Brubaker, Phillps, and Breitweiser are back with another installment of their newest gem. Very different than previous books from this team, but filled with the compelling characters and gorgeous art we’ve all come expect. Everyone interested in great comics should be picking this up.”

Dean’s Recommendations…
jessicajones2Jessica Jones #2
“Of all the new Marvel books so far Jessica Jones is the best pairing of art and writing. Bendis and Gaydos know what this book is and how to best highlight it’s strengths.”

thanos1Thanos #1
“Jeff Lemire writing Thanos. Simply put this book intrigues me…greatly.”

Josh’s Recommendation…
flashomnibusBrian Buccellato and Francis Manapul’s Flash Omnibus
“Few DC books look as good as those with Manapul’s pencils and Buccellato’s colors. Add the Scarlet Speedster running across the page, and their Flash run is one of the most memorable for the character in recent times. Vibrant, confident, and fast paced; 26 issues of Buccellato and Manapul’s Flash is worth the price of admission.”

Mutiversity TPB
Everything sucks right now and we face the possibility of the western world falling into imminent collapse on multiple fronts. So Trea Yo Self to the full collection of what could be Grant Morrison’s last great comic series including art from luminaries like Frank Quitely, Ivan Reis, Jim Lee, Chris Sprouse & more while dreaming of another earth in our own multiverse that is less of a dumpster fire then the one we currently live in”

As I’m sure you all have noticed, the pull list page is no longer present. We here at Nothing But Comics have decided to combine this weekly with the discussion of which comics we are all buying for the week. Included below is the link of our personal favorite product guide. Don’t worry, this is not an advertisement; the website is not paying us anything to push it (not that we’d object!). Comic List just happens to be totally awesome. So check out that massive list and then come on back here to let us know what you are buying.

  1. Aliens Life and Death
    Black Hammer
    Dark Horse Presents
    Ether
    Batman
    Green Arrow
    Grand Passion
    Kill or Be Killed
    Black Panther
    Doc Strange
    Infamous Iron Man
    The Unbeatable (chitty-chit) Squirrel Girl
    Britannia
    Harbinger Renegades

Perchance Thanos or Jessica Jones . . .

    1. Yeah, I’ll probably pick up the 1st issue of Thanos too. Lemire can do no wrong so why not. Still meaning to read his run on Green Arrow.

      1. Yeah, Lemire’s been on a great roll lately yet, for whatever reason, he doesn’t strike me as a natural fit for Thanos. It may simply be my skepticism regarding Marvel’s use of the character, which has been pretty underwhelming the last few years. Starlin’s done some good stuff with him, but outside of that, the last great use of him was Thanos Imperative which has been awhile now.

Frankly, I find Thanos way too overexposed already, which leaves me less inclined to pick up an ongoing dedicated to him. Though I do like the character, so, we’ll see. It’ll be one of those in store gut decisions . . .

Also, would I rather read more Jessica Jones? Hmmm . . .

        1. Thanos was always my favorite villain and Lemire is my current favorite writer so I can’t wait to read this. Well, I will wait but… I’d rather not.

Thanos is extremely overexposed though; you’re right.

        2. I am really interested to see what Lemire would do with a character like Thaons. In my mind he’s the guy who usually writes about the broken underdog, or characters with plenty of emotional baggage, so seeing his take on a big bad sounds great.

I read the first few issues of the fairly recent Jason Aaron run, I think it was Aaron anyway…I remember Thanos killing lizard like creatures as a kid in school or something…? I’m not sure, either way I wasn’t really into it.

I’m also really enjoying Lemire’s run on Moon Knight and as much as I like Greg Smallwood, I’d be interested to see a guy like Chip Zdarsky contributing some artwork, just to add a little self aware humour every now and then.

          1. Aaron wrote a Thanos origin limited series which is what you’re thinking of. And yeah, it wasn’t one of Aaron’s better projects. An example of how too many writers tend to treat Thanos as a straight-forward psychopath — a cosmic powered Joker, instead of the psychologically complex individual Starlin developed over the years.

I did pick up the Lemire issue today, so we’ll see what he can bring to the table . . .

  2. Aliens Life And Death #3 (of 4)
    Aquaman #11
    Bitch Planet #9 (MR)
    Black Hammer #5 Ormston Main
Britannia #3 (of Ether #1 Rubin Main
Harbinger Renegades #1 Cvr A Robertson
Kill Or Be Killed #4 (MR)
Reborn #2 Cvr A Capullo (MR)
    Southern Cross #9 (MR)
    Superman #11 Var Ed
    World of Tanks #2

Best week of comics for a while apart from the absolutely crap art in Aliens. Really looking forward to the fantastic Black Hammer and Kill or Be Killed. I still dig Southern Cross a lot too and then there is World of Tanks… Ennis continues some great war comics.
