Indubitable Issues and Pull List (01/31/18)

LOOKING FOR BOOKS TO BUY THIS WEEK?

LOOK NO FURTHER.

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Tyler’s Recommendation…
Hungry Ghost #1
“Japanese folklore with a culinary twist, Anthony Bordain and Novelist Joel Rose bring the first issue of an anthology of sorts. Each issue is filled with
different tales of ghosts, demons, and other evils, this time around the art comes courtesy of Alberto Ponticelli and Vanessa Del Rey. Part of the new Berger Books line from Dark Horse, with the esteemed Karen Berger running the show, count me in!”

Josh’s Recommendation…
Richard Stark’s Parker: Slayground TPB
“A re-release of the adaptation by the late Darwyn Cooke, ‘Slayground’ is an engrossing and beautifully rendered suspense story as Parker must outwit a score of dangerous men looking to claim his life (and his score) inside an abandoned amusement park in the Winter. While I personally favor the slim hardcovers that were first released, this version is alittle cheaper and so may be more enticing to money conscious buyers. Nonetheless, it’s a great story that can be an introduction to Richard Stark’s character, Cooke’s skill as a creator, or for readers wanting a story sans capes and fantastical elements.”

Dean’s Recommendation…
Motherlands #1
It is kind of a light DC week, but make sure you don’t miss Motherlands. This book sounds very intriguing. In a future where dimension hopping bounty hunters are the world’s most famous people, we follow the mission of a mother daughter team-up through the multiverse. Written by Si Spurrier of The Spire this is sure to be an interesting read.

As we’re sure you all have noticed, the pull list page is no longer present. We here at Nothing But Comics have decided to combine this weekly with the discussion of which comics we are all buying for the week. Included below is the link of our personal favorite product guide. Don’t worry, this is not an advertisement; the website is not paying us anything to push it (not that we’d object!). Comic List just happens to be totally awesome. So check out that massive list and then come on back here to let us know what you are buying.

  1. I would just add to this excellent list:

BLACK CROWN QUARTERLY #2: I like the anthology/magazine format; the last issue broadened my horizons and I enjoyed the comics.

JLA/DOOM PATROL SPECIAL – I love the YOUNG ANIMAL books, and I’m glad they’re back.

PERSONAL NOTE: Found out today that Valiant has been purchased in what appears to be a hostile takeover, with the new corporate owner seeming more interested in media synergy than producing quality comics. I came late to Valiant, coming to appreciate the books due to trade paperbacks checked out at my local library and my fondness for the recent work of Matt Kindt, Jeff Lemire and Peter Milligan. I hope that the quality of the books are sustained in the coming months.
